Artist Statement
Margaret Kimble’s love of clay began when she was just ten years old, in Transylvania County, NC. Escaping the Mississippi heat, she spent her summers at Rockbrook Camp for Girls, where she first discovered the joy of working with her hands. Ever since, the dappled light and fresh air of the mountains have remained intertwined with her passion for creating beautiful objects.
Her love for the handcrafted never faded. In 1997, Margaret earned a BA in Studio Art from Colorado College. A year later, she returned to the mountains of North Carolina, making Transylvania County her permanent home. Though she earned a master’s degree and practiced in another field, she ultimately found her way back to her first love—clay.
Today, Margaret maintains a small ceramics studio in downtown Brevard, keeping her hands dirty and her creativity vibrant. She draws inspiration from the material itself—its buttery texture and gentle yield—building layers that delight both the eye and the hand. Subtle glazes enhance these textures, highlighting the simplicity of form. The result is functional pottery, crafted through traditional methods yet infused with a modern aesthetic—pieces meant to be used, enjoyed, and cherished.
